Description
Soylent original powder sold in Canada through Soylent's official website (soylent.ca), as of 5 Feb 2023. Functionally equivalent to Soylent Powder v2.0 sold in the United States. Standard preparation is to mix a 90g serving with 350mL, producing a meal replacement shake that's relatively bland, but makes a useful, calorie-rich base for other shakes and flavours.
About the "high" sugar content: The 15g of added sugar is isomaltulose, a sugar alternative that metabolises slowly enough (glycemic index of 32) that it does not stimulate insulin production nor otherwise cause a spike in blood glucose levels, hence should not be a cause for concern. Due to labelling regulatory requirements, isomaltulose is required to be listed as a sugar.
The macronutrient ratio of Soylent Powder is roughly 40C:40F:20P. Of the fats present in Soylent Powder, about 90% consists of unsaturated fats. Soylent also contains canola oil as an ingredient, but does not disclose fatty acid content.
Ready-to-drink Soylent has a similar nutritional profile to powdered Soylent but trades carbs for higher (unsaturated) fat content, and with a richer mix of vitamins.
